A note from Abby TopKnot: I remember reading this nonsense poem by Gelett Burgess as a kid, giggling over the silly imagery of a purple cow. Many years later, I learned that Burgess once lived & worked in my very own town of Berkeley, CA. While on an internet rabbit trail learning about Burgess (he invented the word 'blurb'!), I discovered this original illustration of the poem, first published in Burgess' humorous magazine, The Lark, in 1895. It was a true joy to bring my own interpretation of this cow to life in cross stitch as part of The Moo the Merrier.
