Designer's Note: I was inspired to create this design while listening to the Sufjan Stevens cover of this sweet Christmas hymn. Originating in the 12 th century, “The Friendly Beasts” tells the story of the nativity through the voice of each animal in the stable as they present gifts to the newborn Christ. I recently discovered there is a lesser-known 5th verse about a camel... and my first ever drum design was born!

Stitch Count: Camel Drum - 184 x 58; Nativity - 111 x 74

Threads: Weeks Dye Works and DMC (DMC conversions provided) - Thread pack available here

Fabric: Camel Drum - 28 count Milk and Honey Lugana by Fiber on a Whim (available here); Nativity Scene - 30 count Parchment linen by Weeks Dye Works   (available here)

Finishing: The drum was finished using Navy Bean velveteen and Dirty Face lace by Lady Dot Creates and decorated with the "J is for Joy" pin set by Just Another button Company. (Finishing kit including a 5"x5" square of velveteen, 1 yard of lace, a 5"x5" cotton backing fabric for the drum butt, and the pin set is available separately)

The nativity was finished on a vintage wooden frame, which has been lovingly reproduced by Scarlet Sky Designs!
